C Maw is a unique card makers based in Exmouth, Devon. The business was created by Amanda Seymour – a talented illustrator who turned her drawing skills to greeting cards in 2002. Today, C Maw supplies delightful cards to stores all over the world, including Selfridges, Harrods and John Lewis.
In 2009, Amanda approached Sound in Theory to create the first website for C Maw. The website needed to capture Amanda’s quirky, unique style, whilst showcase her extensive range of cards. As Amanda would add cards to the website as she created new ones, the site also needed to be easily updatable.
Amanda created designs for the website pages, which were peppered with her unique character illustrations. Sound in Theory’s web design team embraced the designs, tweaking them where necessary to make them suitable for the web. The challenge was to bring these flat designs to life online.
Sound in Theory achieved this by creating a flash homepage, which features Amanda’s characters as interactive animations that visitors can play with. These characters also function as navigation devices – leading the visitor to other parts of the website. This flash homepage ensures that when people visit C-maw.com, they are immediately drawn in by Amanda’s style.
As well as being a fun site to visit, Sound in Theory ensured C-maw.com is also extremely functional. The CMS-driven website allows for the easy categorisation of the online catalogue of C Maw cards, into categories such as ‘Birthdays’, ‘Weddings’ and ‘Dads’. This advance CMS has custom features that make the site look and feel unique and bespoke – allowing Amanda to change the text colour for each category, add speech bubbles and much more, with just a few clicks.
The website has a bespoke admin system that allows Amanda to easily control the site and edit its content. In the admin site, Amanda can easily manage her card orders, assign logins to her trade customers (letting them sign in to the site and purchase at special trade prices) and view the list of people that have signed to her mailing list. She can also add and remove pages of the site and edit the content, allowing her to add extra cards and information with the greatest ease.
