Machtgefuhl

Machtgefuhl is a commune that seeks to unite artistic expression, however different or complimentary. The website would be the space where this takes place: artists are encouraged to contribute their work, and interact with other artists doing the same. Participation would be the focus of the Machtgefuhl website: the visitor, the creative and anyone else who’s interested are invited to support, encourage and interact with each other. Machtgefuhl approached Sound in Theory to create this website for them.

The website we designed and created is tailored to Machtgefuhl’s requirements. As artists are encouraged to submit their work for the site, Machtgefuhl.com is designed to constantly grow and evolve, as the needs and users’ demand. The homepage is designed to leave maximum room for images; when the site loads, visitors are given the option of viewing it in full screen mode, further maximising the room for images. This allows the homepage to feature every artist’s work, so no artist is seemingly prioritised over the other, thus staying impartial to each.

As Machtgefuhl is an impartial collective, Sound in Theory’s web design team ensured they did not appear too intrusive on the site – the images forming the site’s basis to let the artists’ work speak for itself. The images lead each artist’s page (which feature no text) – emphasising the impartiality of the website: the artist work, not reputation, leads them. We also used intuitive interfaces to enhance this effect.

If an artist has something to contribute to Machtgefuhul, they email Machtgefuhl with their idea, practice project, initiative, blog etc, whether it’s established or completely unknown. If successful, they will be given a login, username, and password, to allow the artist to upload and control their own area of the site (as well as other areas that are currently being developed) – all in the intuitive, easy-to-use content management system Sound in Theory created for the website.
