Nuala and the Alchemy Quartet

Nuala & the Alchemy Quartet is a Devon-based band that plays a fusion of roots, funk and folk music. They have enjoyed great success playing at gigs and festivals all over the world (including at Glastonbury Festival 2008), and released their first album in June 2008.

As a relatively new band with a growing loyal following, they required a website that could attract new audiences while keeping existing fans updated and informed. It needed a look and feel that evoked their traditional folk roots, but also established them as a fun, contemporary band with great appeal. Most importantly, the site needed to convey the richness and communal nature of their music.

Inviting for people unfamiliar with Nuala & the Alchemy Quartet and immediately familiar to those who are, Sound in Theory created a full-flash website that brims with personality. Visitors can find out about the band’s forthcoming gigs and festival spots, whilst discovering a bit of information about each member. They can listen to tracks by the foursome, and access a great archive of photos and press articles. Quirky devices peppered throughout the site – including an animated gramophone that the visitor controls and a navigation bar that magnifies with the cursor – allows users to have some fun as they roam the pages.

Sound in Theory ensured all the content of Nualaandthealchemyquartet.com is fully dynamic, by providing the band with a separate admin system for their website. This puts the control of the site into their hands, so they can keep the news, photo gallery and gig listings regularly updated.

With a successful site launched that Nuala and the Alchemy Quartet were thrilled with, they looked to Sound in Theory again when they needed someone to design their debut album cover and take photographs of the quartet for its inlay. For the album launch night in Devon, Sound in Theory was called on again to design their promotional posters, then film and edit the gig itself (yep, we do that too!), proving that Sound in Theory clients just keep coming back more.
